Robin Harris: Dubrovnik, A History British historian Robin Harris, an expert on Southeast Europe, received his doctorate at Oxford, a number of years worked as an official in the state administration, and was a consultant prime minister Margaret Thatcher. When in 2003. a book Dubrovnik - A History was announced, it was the first comprehensive overview of the history on the English language. Harris has covered almost all aspects of centuries-old history of Dubrovnik and the Dubrovnik Republic. He provided a fresh and very interesting interpretation of Dubrovnik, political, social, economic and cultural history. The book is based on the fundamental sources and rich literature, especially the chapter devoted to the basic processes of Dubrovnik's history of 19th and 20 century, including events during the war in 90. Work on the book Harris has devoted almost an entire decade. To master a huge literature, a few years taught Croatian language and repeatedly visited Croatia and Dubrovnik studying the library material and archives. This great effort and dedication of the Harris stand out from all the other experts who are engaged in Dubrovnik. His work also confirms the experience of most of those who are exploring Dubrovnik's history, other long - even lifelong - "prisoners" of the city. |
